Antique Makah/Nootka, Pacific NW Coast, Bear Grass and Cedar Bark Oval Basket, c. 1900 book shaped inlaid box such that one end wouldThis is a beautiful antique Makah Nootka Northwest Coast Native American open rim basket woven of bear grass and cedar bark, just about my favorite type of basket in the world. Much more common to find lidded examples of these, but I especially love long, oval shaped ones like with a finished lip, opening gently outward. Finely woven, with still very strong dyed color to the woven patterns running all the way around, and a fully plaited cedar bark
