Hardwood, I believe the wood is walnut, but I'm terrible identifying woods. Not a fussy thing about it, but one has the sense it was very much a labor of love, and I'll always say yes to a box with a hand carved heart! 9 5 8" x 5 3 8" x 4 1 8" t. Key long gone, so it does not lock. Very good
