it's an old stair baluster into which little faces were carved on both sides of one end

I would guess it dates to mid- to late 20th c

with wonderfully irregular notched bentwood handles

And hard not to start talking in a Cookie Monster voice and breaking into song when I look at it. Just fun, and handily wired on the back, making for easy hanging somewhere near the cookie jar! Made of chalkware, then hand painted. I especially like that it is deeper at the bottom, allowing for some volume to the many cookies spilling forth. 10 1
